On February 12, the Centre Culturel Royer in Ponteix celebrated "The Black History Month".  But where exactly this celebration comes from?

Dr. Carter G. Woodson, born in the United States in 1875, is the founder of the event: "Black History Month", celebrated in February, because this month correspond to the birth of two great abolitionist: Frederick Douglas and Abraham Lincoln.

Dr Carter G. Woodson had then analyzed further all events and all actions, where black people were the main players of it and who have marked the history of the black population around the world. Because of his multiple analysis and research, the Black people had the chance to have an accurate report on racism and social prejudices towards them.

Today, we celebrate together “The Black History Month”, named so since 1976, in area such as North America, Africa, France, the Caribbean, Central America and the South America. We honor the distinct and unique journey of Black people in the world.
